Miley Cyrus
Miley’s career started when she got the title role in Hannah Montana, a Disney Channel commercial success (the first episode was watched by 5.4 million viewers). In the show, she plays a young teenager, Miley Stewart, who leads a double life as a rock star.
Miley Cyrus performed the songs in Hannah Montana and the two albums from the soundtrack dropped first place in album sales in the United States in the week of their release.
Since then, she has released two albums and has embarked on a filming career.
Miley, who turned 18 last November, was linked to her Last Song costar Liam Hemsworth, 20. The pair had an on and off relationship but sources said they split for good in November 2010.
Recently, Miley was at the heart of a scandal after a video showing her smoking salvia with a group of friends surfaced on the Internet. The possession of this plant, considered a powerful psychedelic drug, is not illegal in California. The video shows Cyrus inhaling the substance and then giggling about it.
Selena Gomez
After appearing in several episodes of Hannah Montana where she plays a pop star who is a rival of Hannah Montana (Miley Cyrus), Selena joins the cast of the series ”Wizards of Waverly Place”.
In 2009, she became the youngest official ambassador for UNICEF. 2010 has been a busy year for Gomez as she starred in two major movies, “Ramona and Beezus” and “Monte Carlo” which was produced by Nicole Kidman.
Rumors have circulated for some time about a possible relationship between Selena and pop sensation Justin Bieber, as the two have been spotted enjoying a few snack dates together. Selena denied the rumors, saying the two of them are just friends.
The latest buzz shows the two stars on a yacht in the Caribbean …kissing and enjoying each other’s company. Apparently, the news angered some Bieber fans as Selena received death threats on Twitter.
Demi Lovato
Demi Lovato became famous for starring as Mitchie Torres in the Disney movie “Camp Rock” alongside the Jonas Brothers.
Lovato debuted in the music industry with the album “Don’t Forget”, which was a commercial success, debuting at # 2 on the Billboard 200 with over 89,000 copies sold in its first week. Her second album, “Here We Go Again,” proved to be another success, reaching the leading position in the same U.S. top.
Demi Lovato dated Joe Jonas for a while in 2010 but the couple called it quits after only two months, insisting that they remain friends.
Demi has been going through some rough time recently. In November it was reported that the Disney star had checked herself into rehab for “emotional and physical issues”. Apparently, her decision was triggered by an altercation she had with one of her backup dancer, Alex Welch, in which Demi punched the girl in the face.
Recently, Lovato was at the centre of another scandal when racy photos of her and three other girls, including backup dancer Alex Welch, leaked on the net.
Taylor Swift
In January 2009, Taylor Swift became the first country artist to go over 2 million paid downloads with three different songs.
She is also one of the artists who received the most awards at such a young age and early career. In December 2010, Taylor Swift has sold 16 million albums worldwide.
Recent rumors talk about a possible hookup between Taylor and Holywood hunk Jake Gyllenhaal as the two were spotted spending Thanksgiving together in Brooklyn.
This year in October, the couple was spotted several times, including at a taping of the Saturday Night Live show and in a restaurant with another couple. At that time, there were rumors that they were a couple, but nothing was officially announced in the media.
At Swift’s 21st birthday, Jake and Taylor were said to be acting all “cuddly and so cute,” with an attendee saying they were “obsessed” with each other all night.
Avril Lavigne
Avril Ramona Lavigne is a Canadian rock singer and songwriter, born in Ontario. She became successful in the early 2000s, having sold 30 million albums worldwide and 18 million singles so far.
Her breakthrough single, “Complicated”, peaked at #1 in many countries around the world, as did the album Let Go. Her second album, Under My Skin, was released in 2004 and was her first album to peak at #1 on the U.S.
Lavigne has scored a total of five #1 singles worldwide, including “Complicated”, “Sk8er Boi”, “I’m With You”, “My Happy Ending” and “Girlfriend”.
Lavigne married Deryck Whibley, lead singer and guitarist for punk band Sum 41, in July 2006. However, in October 2009 Lavigne filed for divorce, releasing the statement, “I am grateful for our time together, and I am grateful and blessed for our remaining friendship.”
Recently, Avrile released What The Hell, the first single from her upcoming fourth studio album, Goodbye Lullaby, which is due March 8. The song got its live debut on “Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve” and fans got a chance to download it for free for 48 hours after that through Lavigne’s Facebook page.
So what do you think? Which singer is the best?
